Emily & Jacques
The Brains Behind Kimpton's Wine and Beverage Programs
Serendipitously named Emily Wines is something of a prodigy when it comes to viticulture. One of only 96 Master Sommeliers in the country, Wines serves as Director of Wines for all Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. The once-resident of California's central coast developed a deep knowledge of the state's diverse wine country, eventually moving to San Francisco where she won a Grand Award from Wine Spectator magazine as sommelier at Fifth Floor restaurant and became one of only two women ever to pass all three sections of the master sommelier certification exam on the first attempt, for which she won the RemiCrug Cup. Today, Wines oversees the vino lists at every Kimpton restaurant, where she also trains staff on differences in varietals and the importance of eco-friendly sips.
As Master Mixologist for Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Jacques Bezuidenhout consults for Kimpton's brand-wide beverage program and influences Poste's mixology-driven cocktail selections. With the distinction of having visited every type of major distillery in existence and as a graduate of London's prestigious BAR program, Bezuidenhout's encyclopedic knowledge of everything from Bourbon to Vodka informs each cocktail list he creates. Prior to working with Kimpton, Bezuidenhout made a name for himself in San Francisco, where he helped launch the local chapter of the United States Bartenders Guild, was voted the city's best bartender by the illustrious Anthony Dias Blue and served as a brand ambassador for both Plymouth Gin and Partida Tequila.
